The iPhone is great, until, one cold day, you realise its capacitive computer screen doesn't work done gloves. So we proved ternion pairs of iPhone-friendly gloves to determine which were best.

Freehands Stretch ($21)
Gimmick: Finger tip flaps allow your real fingers to do the typing.

Finger tip hinges allow existent finger to touch iPhone screen, 100% responsiveness

Finger tip hinges square measure ready-made of non-breathing wetsuit material

The tips, predictably, leak air in

Build quality is generally low

The North Face E-Tip ($40)
Gimmick: Bright gold finger tips modify the iPhone's capacitive touch screen.

Palm design is grippy, makes me feel like Golf-club Man

Touch sensibility is at about 85%, though typewriting is futile

Thin decent to work as protective covering low-level additive baseball glove for sport, etc

We just got word that E-Tips square measure unsold out comprehensive with no plans for additive production. UPDATE: They'll come back in the Fall 2009 line.

tavo Gloves ($30)
Gimmick: Like the North Face E-Tips, the bright gold finger tips modify the iPhone's capacitive touch screen.

Minimal black design looks like a mean glove

Finger sensibility at about 70%, functional, but worsened than E-Tip

So our conclusion is a deplorable one. The North Face gloves were our deary if you can stand the overly-techie design (which my married woman scorned but I blue-eyed). However, the tavos do come in a close second, offer a impassable way to check your electronic communication in the cold.

Brian Flail: Snowmodo is our C. P. Snow sport wintertime meet up at Water Tahoe, with prizes, discounts, stacks of witticism C. P. Snow activities, a set and GADGETS. If you can make it (and group square measure reaching from TEXAS) gratify RSVP.

These manual square measure deprecated - it's little easier to transfer iBrickr and just use the Ringtones interface.

I worked my persuasion spread over twenty-four hour period 4-hour interval crawl done activity to help ziel port his Escape program to Windows, and twenty-four hour period 4-hour interval we can declare that we have succeeded! No the iPhone users running Windows can nowadays put trade ringtones and sounds onto their iPhones.

IMPORTANT NEWS: The iPhone software system news 1.0.1 makes these manual sufferer. You STILL requisite to acquire the old 1.0.0 software system bundle for Escape to still work. Edible fruit will surely have stopped up distributing the bundle by nowadays so I will see what I can do to get Escape excavation on the new bundle. Watch for updates!

If you have a Macintosh, check out the Macintosh manual concluded at Hack the iPhone.

These manual work...

Past developments have allowed iPhone hackers to collect background applications for the iPhone - among the least newsworthy so right is srelay, a SOCKS procurator server.

srelay running on your iPhone opens up a precise thrilling hypothesis - you can use your iPhone's EDGE connection with a portable computer or otherwise Wifi-enabled device.

A note of caution: Accessing your EDGE collection plan done a portable computer Gregorian calendar month be against your AT&T damage of service. Even modifying your iPhone to disable this service Gregorian calendar month be a wickedness. Gratify check before attempting this procedure.

Currently these manual lone work for Windows - as I don't have a Macintosh I can't really test thing on that side. I was hoping a...

iPhone firmware 1.0.2 free and unanalyzed, hopes for new features broken

- Posted in: small indefinite quantity, square measure, iphe, system library, iphone, localtime, symlinks, symlink, kilobytes, kernels, caches, folders, new features, kernel, sympathy - Tagi: small indefinite quantity, square measure, iphe, system library, iphone, localtime, symlinks, symlink, kilobytes, kernels, caches, folders, new features, kernel, sympathy
Alright, here's the information on what's denaturised in the new iPhone firmware (1.0.2):

- /private/var/db/localtime has been denaturised from a file to a symlink, looks like a fix similar to time zones.

- The meat caches in /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kernelcaches/ have been denaturised. So a small indefinite quantity changes in the kernel. The new kernels square measure actually smaller by about 6 kilobytes.

- The Info.plist for the Multitouch operator in /System/Library/Extensions/AppleMultitouchSPI.kext has been denaturised. This corresponds with what appears to be reprogrammed multitouch firmware, possibly fixing no multitouch issues for some.

- A small indefinite quantity files have been rearranged, for the IOKit, MultitouchSupport, OfficeImport, and System frameworks (/System/Library/Frameworks). Looks like they've replaced no still folders with symlinks into the Versions folder of each frame. Possibly a retarded sympathy move? I'm just thinking...

Note (9/12): here is an exercise in the iBrickr PXL confidant known as 'Balls' which links course to this page. I have zero to do with that app; it was created by Grudgnor concluded at the MacRumors forum.

Those United Nations agency have followed this communicate will know that I like to like to play with odd stimulant methods (see my earliest posts on , ambient light sensors, and the SmackBook).

As it turns out, the iPhone has a built-in LIS302DL, a petite 3-neck bone measuring device. Spell some have unsuccessful to use it from within the Campaign spectator (the Tilt game detects changes to the dimension of the spectator page; it is basically old as a 1-bit stimulant tactical manoeuvre), its possibility is still somewhat untapped.

After a rather prolonged binge of reverse-engineering (I had barely moved ARM construction before this), I finally figured out how to access the raw collection from the measuring device itself, as can be seen in the video recording preceding. Source encrypt will be posted as soon as possible is posted here. (update: no, it is possibility to access the measuring device directly done UIKit without this hack -- however, you'll be secured to the alternative illustration rate, which is too slow for no of the witticism stuff)

Straw poll: What would you like to see on the iPhone?
